Ingredients:
Meat: 2 1/2 lb
Large onions: 3
Chana dal: 10 oz
Chilly powder: 1 1/2 ts
Dhania-jeera: 2 ts
Salt: 2 ts
Turmeric: 1 ts
Cumin powder: 1 1/2 ts
Sambhar: 2 heaped ts
Garlic paste: 1 ts
Ginger paste: 1 ts
Tomatoes: 2
Coriander: 1/2 bunch
Green chillies: 3
Raw green mangoes: 3 (in season)
The Steps:
Pre - Preparation :
1) Cut the meat up and finely slice
the onions.
2) Wash and soak the dal in cold
water for at least 2 hrs.
3) Slit the chillies.
Preparation :
1) Fry the sliced onions till golden
brown.
2) Add all the spices and cook
gently for a few mins.
3) Add the pieces of meat, cook,
stirring occasionally, then the
chopped tomatoes.
4) Mix in the dal, draining off the
water it has been soaked in, and
stir so that the meat, masala and
dal are well mixed.
5) Add sliced mangoes and chillies.
6) Put enough water to let the dal
and meat cook, cover and place in
the
oven on 350 degrees for approx 1 1/2
hours or till it is all cooked.
7) Before serving add lemon juice,
if mangoes are not available, and
chopped coriander.
